The second leg of the Uganda Cup round of 32 tie between Gaddafi and Mbale Heroes took place at Mbale stadium. Gaddafi FC won the first leg 1-0 and were looking to capitalise on this advantage.

Normal play ended 1:0 in favor of the home side, with Musa Malunda scoring the decisive goal that gave Mbale Heroes  a 1:1 aggregate to set up a penalty shootout.

After the 90 minutes plus 4 of extra time, all teams turned to their goalkeepers to send them through to the next round. Gaddafi FC defender Faisal Najibu hit the goal post while Mbale Heroes Goalkeeper Hilbert Hatimu  made a great save in the post-match penalty shootout to end the session 4-2 in favour of Mbale Heroes.

This was the first game for Mbale Heroes’ new coach Hussein Kheri who took over the job after the sacking of Bobic Odowa recently by the management. Progressing to the round of 16 at home for Mbale Heroes brought alot of excitement for the home fans, who overpowered the security and the perimeter fencing to join their team in celebrating the win inside the pitch.

But it remains to be seen what Mbale Heroes will treat us to in the next round of this year’s Uganda Cup competition.
