In what is being dubbed by many as a replay of last season’s contest between these two sides, historical champion Mbale Heroes will be up against the current Uganda Cup Holders Proline FC at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Sunday, May 2. The surgeons from Mbale have won this competition twice since it started and tomorrow they will be looking to avenge last year’s defeat to Proline, where they were eliminated at this very same stage of this competition, thanks to a Hamis Diego Kizza penalty.

The good news is that for this year, it is a two-leg format competition unlike last year, and the first leg will be played in Kampala before the return leg a week later at Mbale Municipal Stadium.

Mbale Heroes fresh from last year’s defeat, will desperately want to avenge what happened to them and even though many might write them off in this competition, the surgeons from Mbale are no strangers in the competition. They won it in 1999, 23 years after winning the second edition of the competition in 1976 under a different name at the time “Gangama FC”.

Proline on the other end won the Uganda Cup in 2019 at the Masaka Recreational Stadium recovering from a goal down to beat Bright Stars 5 – 4 during a penalty shootout. All eyes tomorrow will be on this fixture between these two sides in Kampala.
