The draw for the World Rugby Sevens Repechage draw has been announced by World Rugby in a press release previewing the draw.
The World Rugby Sevens Repechage tournament is the final part of the global qualifying process for the Olympics. It is a one off event to determine the final two women’s and one man’s teams to qualify for the rugby sevens competition at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which were delayed until 2021.
12 women’s and 10 men’s teams will compete in a round robin at a competition in Monaco on 19-20 June, 2021 with two women’s teams and one men’s team booking their place for Tokyo.
The draw for the World Rugby Sevens Repechage will take place on Tuesday, 11 May at 10:00BST and will be streamed live on World Rugby digital platforms.
With 21 of the 24 teams already qualified for the Olympic rugby sevens competition, the remaining two women’s and one men’s teams to participate at the Olympics will be determined at the Stade Louis Ilin Monaco on 19-20 June.
For the men’s competition, the 10 teams are drawn into two pools of five teams, including one team from each of the five pre-determined bands.
Uganda falls in band 4 together with Zimbabwe.
Band 1: France, Samoa
Band2: Hong Kong, Ireland
Band 3: Chile Tonga
Band 4: Well, we have Uganda and Zimbabwe as mentioned above. Band 5: Jamaica, Mexico.
