Jocelyn Ucanda has unveiled her manifesto on Tuesday 1/06/21 in a bid to win the Netball Association’s presidency.

Her opponents are Honorable Sarah Babirye and Christine Nampijja. The much anticipated Uganda Netball Federation Elections will take place this Saturday, 5th June 2021.

She launched her manifesto at route256 in Lugogo. Ucanda has been holding the position of National She Cranes Team Manager in the outgoing regime led by Susan Anek. Ucanda highlighted five key points that will form her new regime if voted into power.

Governance, International relations, Technical Development, Financing and a sound secretariate.

She pointed to the creation of a government with shared power from top to bottom. Unlike what has been happening in the current government where the top executives only hold power in Netball.

“If elected, I will work with the UNF executive and the rest of the Netball Fraternity to implement a leadership strategy built on key pillars which I have called ‘The Five Gifts.’”

She pledged to develop netball from the grassroots by setting up regional committees and set clear policies to govern the game.

Ucanda also pointed to Uganda’s ranking on the netball ranking standings. Uganda currently sits 7th in the World. Ucanda pledged to do all in her power to move Uganda to a better position in her tenure.

Ucanda said she will partner with international bodies like the International Netball Federation. This will help the country develop with experience at the international level.

She also pledged to organise competitions for talent identification and development, and also push for the establishment of the Netball Arena as the sport seeks to find her own home.

Ucanda is an Assistant Director of Marketing at National Insurance Corporation (NIC) Holding.

She is also the manager of the NIC netball team, a country’s club Netball League Powerhouse

The Netball elections will be held on Saturday. 20 clubs, four institutions and 97 districts are eligible to vote.
