Uganda to face favorites France in Olympics Qualifier

Uganda is set to tussle it out with France, Hong Kong, Chile and Jamaica in Pool B for a slot in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. 

Two sides will proceed to play in Olympics with France heavy favorites in the group leaving Uganda with the duty to play it all out against the other three teams for the last spot. 

France’s formidable record 

France are the hosts for the qualifiers in Monaco. 

They finished 8th in 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. 

They also finished 6th in the HSBC World Rugby 7s hence missing out on automatic qualification. 

They have reached the quarter finals of the World Cup on four occasions and they are expected to qualify for the Olympics with ease. 

Uganda’s experience;

Uganda faced France twice in the Emirates Invitational Sevens last month and they lost both encounters 45-7, 33-7. 

They have experience against Chile,Jamaica and Hong Kong whom they played against in the Hong Kong 7s. 

This is Uganda’s second attempt to qualify for the Olympics and they face competition from 11 other sides; Brazil, Chile, Jamaica, Mexico, France,Ireland, Tonga, China, Zimbabwe, China, Tonga, Sami and Hong Kong for the last two slots. 

Japan, Australia, Kenya, South Korea, Newzealand, Kenya, USA, South Africa, Canada, Great Britain and Argentina have already qualified for the finals.
