Uganda has been confirmed as host of the 2023 Africa Netball Championship.
This confirmation was arrived at during the Netball Africa general sitting slated in Pretoria, South Africa on Saturday, the 20th August 2022.
Among the officials that attended the sitting include Sarah Babirye Nakityo, the Uganda Netball Federation President and other African Netball Presidents.
Different African Countries such as Uganda the hosts, Malawi, Botswana, Zambia, Namibia among others are expected to take part in the 2023 African Netball Championships.
This will be Uganda’s second time to host the Africa Netball Championships since 2017.
Uganda as a country expects more from the She Cranes as they are fresh from the 202 Commonwealth games in Birmingham.
At the 2022 Commonwealth games, Uganda’s She Cranes finished fifth having defeated South Africa 54-48.
However, Uganda was ranked sixth by the World Netball Rankings due to point difference with South Africa.
The 2022 Commonwealth games Netball Champions included Austria, New Zealand, Jamaica in the first, second and third place in that order with England the hosts finishing in the fourth place.
At the 2017 African Netball Championships, Uganda’s She Cranes registered their first ever win having defeated Zambia 67-50 In the final game.
Botswana lost to Malawi 71-39 who settled for silver while Zimbabwe took bronze after defeating Namibia 68-37 goals.
The Championship will be held after the 2023 Netball World Cup that due in July 2023 In Cape town, South Africa.
