In a tweet this morning, the FUFA president Moses Magogo disclosed that the Uganda Cranes would not take part in the upcoming Africa Nations Championships  (CHAN) finals citing inadequate funds.

The UPL 2022/2023 made adjustments to the match day fixtures to accommodate camp preparations which were slated to start on the 21st of December 2022.

Imagine, preparing all through and the team ends up staying home. Uganda has so far featured in 2011, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020 CHAN editions.

Uganda was in the same group as Senegal, DRC, and Cote D’Ivoire and the competitions were meant to start on 13th January to 4th February 2023.

In a tweet, Magogo said

‘Like for the U23, we are left with no further option but to withdraw the Uganda Cranes from CHAN finals because Ministry of Finance has not provided the funds as appropriated by Parliament.’

There are many gambles around this situation. One of the major ones is how Parliament allocates money, and it does not reach the intended purpose.
