Uganda women rugby players gearing up preps for Elgon Cup

National Women Rugby Coach summoned 34 female rugby players on Sunday 16th May 2021. 

They are to stay in the camp for one week in preparation for the Elgon Cup. The cup is slated for June 12th 2021. 

A final squad of 25 players is to be selected from the 34 contingent. They will form the national women rugby 15 s team to take part in the upcoming Elgon Cup. 

The aim of the camp is to get players’ mindset back to the 15s format after playing the league in a 10s format. 

On Monday, they had their first trial game. They now intend to have camps to raise players’ focus and team bonding. 

The first match of the Elgon Cup will be in Kampala on June 12th. 

The Elgon Cup is an annual competition between Uganda and her neighbor Kenya. They play two matches home and away to determine the victor. 

Uganda Lady Cranes suffered its heaviest defeat to Kenya in 2019 in Kakamega by 44-13. They went on to lose 35-5 in Kampala.
