Uganda Institute of Allied Health and Management Sciences (UIAHMS-Mulago) took a 160 students contingent for the 20th Edition of the Health Institutions 2022 Games, which ran from 28th Aug to 3rd Sept 2022 in Fort Portal City Kabarole District, hosted by Fort Portal College of Health Sciences. 160 Students! A number that can only symbolize desire for glory.
UIAHMS beat Arua COHES 17:11 to take Netball Gold, in volleyball they beat Jinja Nursing 2:0 to take gold in Women category and took Silver after losing 2:0 to Fort Portal in Men category. They also took Gold in Wood ball women’s category and Silver in Men’s category, Handball they took gold in both gender.
Mind Games was no exception, UIAHMS was able to score 124 points to take Gold in Omweso in the boys’ category, there was also double gold in Chess scoring 24 points in ladies and 25 points in men, there was another double gold in Scrabble where they scored 20 points by the ladies and 22 points by the men, their final Gold was by the men in Draught who gained it with 56 points.
The biggest number of gold and silver that Kampala region gained were won by UIAHMS, who won in cross country, 100m, 200m, 400m, long jump, triple jump, javelin, discuss, short put 100mx4, 400mx4, to mention but a few.
However West Nile also gave UIAHMS a run for their money, in Athletics which was classified in two Cross country and Field and track, West Nile women won gold in both field, track and cross country. Eastern Region men also took Men’s Cross country event.
Lubaga and Soroti never gave UIAHMS a chance in Draught as they took gold and silver respectively, Lubaga Hospital Training school beat Soroti to gold with 44 points against Soroti’s 42 points.
Football semifinals and finals which were played a day after the official awards was won by Bwindi who had a slim win of 1:0 against Ntungamo and Jinja School of Nursing took gold.
In summary UIAHMS were the overall winners of the tournament as they won 10 gold medals, 2 Silver medals and no Bronze, Second place was South Western with 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 0 bronze.
The 21st Edition will be hosted by Kabale School of Nursing in Kabale around the same time next year.
