After giving away their semifinal berth to Express FC in the Uganda Cup, SC Villa today travelled to Bombo Stadium to play in the reverse fixture of the Uganda Premier League. SC Villa, targeting a comfortable finish in the league, started the game by going down early in the 26th minute, thanks to Eseru Robert’s goal which put UPDF ahead in the game. After going down, SC Villa increased their pressing power in an attempt  to find an equalizer before halftime break but their efforts were dampened by the resilient UPDF side who defended well to maintain their 1:0 lead going into halftime break.

After the halftime break, Joseph Nsubuga converted a penalty in the 48th minute to level matters at the Bombo Military Stadium to 1:1. UPDF then increased their attacking prowess going forward and they were again rewarded through Robert Eseru who scored another goal to complete his brace during the afternoon in Bombo.

The win moved the army side to eighth on the table with 37 points while SC Villa dropped down to the tenth position with just 36 points from 27 league games played so far. UPDF were able to do a league double over inconsistent Villa who have been battling a ton of problems this season. Next on the menu for Edward Kaziba’s side   was Busoga United next Tuesday in game week 28, but with the president today suspending all sport activities for the next 42 days, they will have to wait. The same applies to the UPDF team who were supposed to go away to Mbarara City on the same day.
