Eric Kambale and Godfrey Lwesibawa on the score sheet as Express FC completed a league double over URA with a 3-1 win to get within a point of the leaders.
Uganda Revenue Authority was looking to regain their 3 points advantage to stay on top of the Uganda Premier League today with a win against the Red Eagles of Kampala. But the tax collectors didn’t expect that they could be run down by the Express boys so easily in the manner that they did.
Godfrey Lwesibawa opened the scoring with a well-placed header in ten minutes when he got at the end of Charles Musiige’s cross to make it 1:0 in favor of Express. Eric Kambale then made it 2-0 with another header eight minutes later after getting assisted by Lwesibawa from a free-kick position.
Then in the 38th minute, Eric Kambale completed his brace from a penalty spot to give Express a comfortable halftime lead.
Nine minutes into the second half, the hosts went a man down after Murushid Jjuuko got a second booking and was given a matching order. Steven Mukwala, the league top scorer, then pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 59th minute to add his goal tally to 10 for the season.
This loss, of course, has implications for URA on the table as they failed to displace the defending champions Vipers FC who won their game yesterday to go top of the league table on goal difference. But Express FC are now at 35 points, one behind both Vipers and URA after 16 games
