Vipers SC has one foot in the quarterfinals of this year’s Uganda cup after a 3-1 away win against UPDF FC  in the game played today at Bombo Military Grounds.

UPDF FC now has a task to overturn this result when they visit Vipers SC at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende on Monday 3rd May for the second leg, having conceded 3 goals at home.

UPDF FC started the game well as they took an early lead through Brian Kayanja in the 11th minute which lead they managed to hold onto going into the halftime interval.

At the start of second half, Vipers SC made a double substitution and introduced attackers Milton Karisa and Cesar Manzoki for  Lawrence Tezikya and David Bagoole respectively.

Bobosi Byaruhanga’s corner was turned in by UPDF’s Joseph Vuni to score a 64th minute own goal and grant Vipers SC the advantage.  Two minutes later Ibrahim Orit doubled the lead for Vipers SC .

Another double substitution for Vipers SC was made in the 74th minute to preserve their lead and Allan Kayiwa and Livingstone Mulondo were introduced for Yunus Sentamu and Disan Galiwango.

In the closing minutes of the game Cesar Manzoki scored a beautiful diving header from Abraham Ndugwa’s delivery to make it 3 – 1 for the visitors at full time. And this result all but guarantees qualification to the quarter finals for Vipers if they do not crumble at home in the return fixture tomorrow.
