At the draw held on Monday at the CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, Uganda’s Vipers SC, who will represent Uganda in the 2022–23 CAF Champions League season, learned who her group opponents would be.

Vipers have been placed in Group C with the likes of Raja Casablanca of Morocco, Horoya of Guinea, and Simba SC of Tanzania, who are all neighbors.

Raja, who has won the championship three times, will be the biggest threat, but Vipers will be confident because only two teams move on to the final round.

The Venoms defied the odds to eliminate TP Mazembe in the return leg of the second round.

Normal time ended goalless in the game played in Lubumbashi and thus the tie had to be decided on a penalty shootout.

In the shootout, Vipers SC was perfect winning 4-2 and progressed to the next stage.

Vipers SC is now the first Ugandan football club to reach the group stages of the CAF Champions League since KCCA FC in 2018.

Teams will compete against one another on a home-and-away round robin format.

The groups will start on February 10 and finish on April 1, 2023.

The champions and runners-up from each group proceed to the elimination round Quarterfinals.

After defeating Al Ahly in the 2022 championship game, Wydad is the reigning champion.
