At St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende, Vipers football club hosted Busoga United in the game week 17 of the Uganda premier league.
This was their 3rd meeting in a space of 12 days, as the two teams met home and away in the Uganda Cup round of 32. Vipers SC beat the boys from Jinja in both those Uganda Cup fixtures to secure a spot in the round of 16 of the Uganda Cup.
The Uganda Premier League encounter was no different as the defending champion needed a win to keep their position at the top of the UPL table. Abdul Aziz Kayondo opened the scoring in the 25th minute to give Vipers SC a 1 : 0 lead that held up to the halftime break.
Second half then started with Vipers SC still very much in control of proceedings.
Yanus Sentamu netted a brace in the game scoring his first goal in the 48th minute to double the home team advantage. Then 5 minutes after the hour mark, it was Yanus Sentamu again to make it 3 : 0 in favor of the home side.
With 4 minutes remaining on the clock, Milton Karisa got the fourth goal for Vipers SC to give them another well deserved win.
This result keeps the Venoms on top and ahead of URA FC on goal difference. Both teams have collected 39 points after 17 games this season.
Busoga United occupy the 12 position on the table. Their failure to collect points early in the season could see them headed to the zone of relegation fights as the season draws closer to a close.
