The Venoms have become the first club to qualify for the quarter finals of the 47th edition of the Uganda Cup.
Their qualification came after a 1-1 stalemate with UPDF FC today at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende in the last 16 second leg game played today.
The match up started in high gear as just 6 minutes into the game, Manzoki had already scored the opening goal from Karisa’s delivery though the goal was rightly disallowed for offside.
Four minutes later, the visitors took the lead through defender Joseph Bright Vuni’s powerful header off Isa Mubiru’s well executed corner kick.
In the 23rd minute Vipers SC equalized through Bobosi Byaruhanga who scored direct from a corner kick.
Vipers SC continued searching for a goal but they were unlucky when Halid Lwaliwa’s rocket was saved by goalkeeper Eric Kibowa in the 28th minute and the Congolese striker Manzoki’s other attempted shot went over the bar in the 33rd minute.
Half time whistle was blown with the game level but Vipers SC was still leading 4-2 on aggregate.
In the 53rd minute the Venoms had a chance to lead the game but Alan Kayiwa’s free-kick from the edge of the box went off target.
2 minutes later UPDF FC technical bench called for three changes where Christopher Kamugu was rested for Arafat Kakonge, Paul Ruben Kabuye gave way for Alex Kitata and Davis Kasirye came and was replaced by Brian Kayanja.
60 minutes into the game UPD FC was caught on the break but Jamil Kalisa’s strike was just a few inches wide.
As Vipers continued to search for a goal a double substitution was made in the 65th minute where Paul Mucureezi and Najib Yiga came in for Allan Kayiwa and Jamil Kalisa before they made triple substitution where Lawrence Tezikya, Orit and Galiwango came in for Manzoki, Milton Karisa and Aziz Kayondo.
The changes brought in more pace and in the 75th minute Ibrahim Orit made a brilliant delivery but Lawrence Tezikya’s header went straight into the hands of the goalkeeper Eric Kibowa. The final whistle was blown and the game ended 1-1 but Vipers qualified 4-2 on aggregate having won 3-1 away in Bombo.
