The summit of the Uganda Premier League is a hot place to be now, as every team is taking it game by game in an attempt to clinch the Uganda Premier League title this season. During the 1:00 PM kickoff today at Bombo Stadium, SC Villa hosted the Venoms looking to turn the tide on their performance after they lost 1:0 to Onduparaka in Arua in Midweek.

But as many expected, the defending champions Vipers Football Club, gave SC Villa no chance at all to try and exert themselves in the game. In the first period, Byaruhanga Bobosi and Yunus Sentamu scored to put Vipers 2:0 ahead in the 28th minute and 34th minute respectively. The Venoms then made it difficult defensively for SC Villa to come back into the game by shielding all their defensive loops by attacking them more, and the first half ended 2:0 in favor of the away team.

After halftime break in Bombo, SC Villa came back looking forward to getting something out of this game, but unfortunately in the 66th minute they were reduced to 10 men after Gavin Kizito was sent off by the center referee in the game. His booking compromised Villa’s ability to compete favorably in the game, and in just minutes, Paul Mucureezi scored the 3 goal for Vipers to put the game away for Villa.

Keni Paul then gave SC Villa one consolation goal in the 71st minute but it wasn’t enough to beat the point hungry Vipers Football Club who needed the maximum 3 points in the game to put pressure on URA at the top of the league. Vipers now sit on top on 53 points temporarily as they await results of the URA game against police FC, whereas their opponent Villa sit 8th on 32 points.
