Venue: Lugogo Indoor Stadium

Time: 11:00am

Weatherhead Ladies team captain has dropped a hint on the club’s ambitions this season in the hockey league. Heading into their league opener against Kampala Hockey Club Swans, the captain believes that the new recruitments the club acquired will give them an edge against their opponents in the bid to reclaim their title.

The 2017 champions were busy in the transfer season recruiting in preparation for the new season where they believe the title is theirs to lose.

She said, “This is going to be our best year yet. We have a bulletproof strategy & have beefed up with fresh recruits. We’re coming in strong with hope to reclaim the title. I can only hope our opponents are ready.”

The match between Weatherhead Hockey Club and Kampala Hockey Club Swans will be match day 2 opening fixture and it is the only game in the lady’s category this weekend following the 2-2 draw between Deliverance CH+ and Rhinos last weekend in the season opener.

Meanwhile Uganda Hockey national team vice captain Desire Edith Mukisa was the only female umpire who was appointed for a game on the opening day. Desire who started umpiring in 2019 chose umpiring because she wanted to give back to hockey. She said, “I chose umpiring because there are few ladies in umpiring. I also chose it because I love hockey and so this is a way of giving back.”
