This event, eagerly awaited by golf enthusiasts, promises a blend of competition, camaraderie, and celebration, set in East Africa’s oldest golf facility.

A Golden Jubilee Celebration

This year’s event carries extra significance as it coincides with I&M Bank’s golden jubilee celebrations. The festivities will kick off on Friday, June 28, at the Kampala Serena Hotel, marking 50 years of the bank’s service in East Africa. Annette Nakiyaga, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at I&M Bank, emphasized the importance of this milestone.

“The I&M Bank Katogo series is a highlight of our dedication towards nurturing a dynamic golfing culture in the country,” Nakiyaga remarked. “This edition marks yet another exciting chapter in our journey, where golfers and guests alike will come together for a day of thrilling competition on the greens, but one that shall be played with a spirit of togetherness. This edition is also special as it coincides with our golden jubilee celebrations, so expect a grand celebration at the 19th hole.”

Innovating the Game: The ‘Tee for Me’ Format

The second round of the series introduces the ‘Tee for Me’ format, designed to add an element of fun and challenge. In this format, players will pair up, with each player teeing off at each hole. The pairs will then switch balls for their second shot. The team score will be determined by the net score, with each pair designating six holes for individual play, considering the worse net score.

Katogo Captain Elly Kibuka Mukasa expressed his enthusiasm about the innovative format and the event’s growing popularity. “The second round of the I&M Bank Katogo series is here, and it’s going to be a splendid day both on the greens and at the 19th hole. We have already registered overwhelming participation and had to close the registration link due to the high demand.”

Building on Success

The inaugural event of the series, which adopted the ‘In Regulation’ format, saw Peace Kabasweka and Perez Muhwezi emerge as overall winners in the ladies’ and men’s categories, respectively. This success has set a high bar for the upcoming event, with participants eager to compete in the new format.

“We’re looking forward to another exciting day filled with friendly competition, teamwork, and good sportsmanship,” Mukasa added. “This edition will be a special tribute to our lead sponsor, I&M Bank, who are celebrating 50 years of offering unmatched financial services to East Africa as a region.”

A Day of Entertainment

Beyond the competition, the 19th hole experience promises to be a grand celebration. Hosted by comedian Salvado, it will feature performances from Kenneth Mugabi, Myko Ouma, and Janzi Band. This blend of entertainment underscores the spirit of unity and celebration that defines the I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series.
