His impressive victory not only earned him the Best Boxer award for June but also solidified his status as a rising star in Ugandan boxing. Nyanzi’s triumph surpassed the efforts of fellow nominees Salimat Tibesigwa and Isaac Zebra Ssenyange Junior, showcasing his superior skill and determination in the ring.

Cricket: Brian Masaba’s Leadership

Brian Masaba, captain of the Cricket Cranes, was named the best cricketer for his leadership and exceptional performance in guiding his team to their debut appearance at the T20 World Cup. Masaba’s notable contributions included taking the first wicket against Afghanistan and adding four more in subsequent matches. This achievement was particularly significant as it marked his retirement from T20Is and his captaincy duties, making his recognition a fitting tribute to his cricketing career. Young talents Juma Miyagi and Cosmas Kyewuta were also nominated, highlighting the depth of talent in Ugandan cricket.

Basketball: Modesta Anyango’s Impact

Modesta Anyango, a key player for the Junior Gazelles (Uganda Girls U18 National Basketball team), was honored as the best basketball player for June. Her pivotal role in helping her team win the FIBA U18 Zone Five Championships at Lugogo earned her the MVP title of the tournament. Anyango’s standout performance outshone Junior Silverbacks (Boys) players Joel Rugette and Gideon Ekukwai, who were instrumental in the Boys U18 team’s success. Her recognition underscores the growing prominence of women’s basketball in Uganda.

Football: Elio Capradossi’s Stellar Debut

Elio Capradossi, an Italian-based defender, was celebrated as the best football player of the month for his stellar debut performances for the Uganda Cranes during the World Cup qualifiers against Botswana and Algeria. Capradossi’s defensive prowess and composure on the field earned him this accolade, highlighting his importance to the national team. Other football nominees included Ronald Kaye of Ntungasanze and Paul Lule, reflecting the competitive nature of the sport in Uganda.

Lifetime Achievement: Godfrey Mbarire

In addition to the monthly awards, Godfrey Mbarire received a Lifetime Achievement award for his significant contributions to Ugandan football. Mbarire, the former Kabaka Chief of Ssazza Ssingo, played a pivotal role in reviving the Masaza Football Tournament in 2004 and served as Chairman of the Masaza Cup organizing committee.
