Caps United seeks third consecutive win.

DYNAMOS received a significant boost ahead of the much-anticipated Harare Derby against Caps United with the return to full fitness of three key players. Coach Genesis Mangombe confirmed that first-choice goalkeeper Martin Mapisa, midfielder Tanaka “Kante” Shandirwa, and winger Issa Sadiki are all available for the must-win match.

Injury Comebacks

Kante and Sadiki have been sidelined for an extended period, while Mapisa missed the team’s 1-1 draw against Herentals last week due to a groin problem. Their return comes at a crucial time for Dynamos, as they prepare to face their city rivals at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.

“They are all available for the match after recovering from injuries. It is a huge boost for us because they are key players in the team. They are first-team players and their availability also means we have enough depth in the squad, so, I am very happy,” Mangombe said.

Despite these positive returns, the team still faces challenges. Captain Frank Makarati is yet to recover from a recurring knee injury, and Valentine Kadonzvo is down with a stomach bug. Additionally, defender Nomore Chinyerere, who scored Dynamos’ goal in the draw against Herentals, is suspended for the match after accumulating three yellow cards.

“It is a blow for us,” Mangombe said. “But we need to find ways to cope without them. We have enough cover and I am confident that the players who will be selected to do duty will play well.”

Current Form and Challenges

Dynamos are entering the derby on the back of a stuttering form, having drawn their last three matches. This winless streak has placed additional pressure on Mangombe, with the team currently in 10th position on the log standings with 12 points from 11 matches. They are expected to be awarded three more points from their abandoned match against Chegutu Pirates, which might provide some relief.

Caps United, on the other hand, have shown resilience despite not impressing consistently. Last week, they secured a dramatic 1-0 victory against Yadah, with William Manondo scoring in stoppage time. Manondo’s goal was his fourth of the season, making him a player Dynamos will need to watch closely.

“Caps United is a tricky side. They have experienced players who can rise to the occasion any time. Manondo is doing well, so we will need to keep an eye on him. We know his quality and how he can hurt us,” Mangombe noted.

Caps United are currently in sixth place on the log with 16 points, six points behind log leaders Manica Diamonds. A win on Sunday would extend their winning run to three matches, indicating a resurgence in form.

Head-to-Head and Expectations

•Dynamos will start the match as favourites, having dominated their rivals last season with a league double against Caps United.

•However, their recent form has raised concerns, and a failure to secure maximum points could amplify the pressure on Mangombe.

Conversely, Caps United seem to have found their rhythm after a shaky start to the season. Their recent performances have given them a sense of confidence and momentum heading into the derby.
