Destiny Stars’ David Chirandu, a standout defender, has been awarded the June Player of the Month in the Eastern Region Division One football league. The 28-year-old, on loan from Premiership side Manica Diamonds, has consistently delivered top-tier performances, earning the Man of the Match title in five consecutive games. His form has been pivotal for the newly promoted team, marking him as one of the division’s most promising talents.

Coaching Excellence

Mutare City Rovers’ head coach, Kennedy Kachara, has been named Coach of the Month for June. Under his leadership, the team has climbed to second place in the league standings, showcasing a remarkable turnaround and strategic prowess. Kachara’s coaching acumen has not only improved the team’s performance but also positioned them as strong contenders in the league.

Fungai Munyoro Chingaira, the ERSL regional administrator, confirmed the awards, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and rewarding exceptional performances to motivate players and coaches. “We want to congratulate Mutare City Rovers head coach Kennedy ‘Bokande’ Kachara for winning the June Coach of the Month and Destiny Stars player David Chirandu for winning the Player of the Month,” Chingaira announced.

Awards and Prizes

Both Chirandu and Kachara received trophies and prize money as part of their accolades. The awards not only acknowledge their individual efforts but also inspire their teams to strive for excellence. Destiny Stars’ secretary-general, Jemutias Manhondo, expressed his delight for Chirandu’s consistent performance since the season’s start. “David Chirandu has been consistent since the start of the season and he has managed to win Man of the Match awards several times. He is on loan from Manica Diamonds,” Manhondo added.

League Standings

Currently, Destiny Stars hold the 10th position in the league with 17 points from 12 matches. Meanwhile, Mutare City Rovers are in second place with 25 points, trailing league leaders FC Wangu Mazodze by seven points. This positioning highlights the competitive nature of the league and the crucial roles played by standout individuals like Chirandu and Kachara.

Humble Beginnings of Destiny Stars

Destiny Stars’ journey began in a church league, with the team originally named Church of Christ in Mutare. The initiative was started nearly five years ago as a way to combat drug abuse among youths. The team’s growth from these humble beginnings to competing in Division One is a testament to their dedication and community support. Wilson “Soks” Masokowere serves as the team’s president, with David Bati as chairman, Lyold Chinawa as vice-chairman, and Temba “Shumba” Sauramba as treasurer.
