The Lina Professional Golfers (PG) Tour Pro-Am tournament has reached its climactic stage, with the final 36-hole showdown set to commence this morning at the Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC) course in Arusha. While favorites like Ally Isanzu, Nuru Mollel, and Isiaka Daudi have unsurprisingly qualified, the tournament has also highlighted the surprising performances of underdogs and lesser-known talents, adding a thrilling dimension to the competition.

The Elite Make the Cut

By the end of the second day’s competition, only 24 golfers had managed to make the cut, as confirmed by the Lina PG Tour’s Director, Yasmin Chali. “These are the best players of the two rounds staged on Thursday and Friday, and all 24 are now eligible to play in the remaining 36 holes,” Chali announced.

Among these top performers are Mollel, Hassan Kadio, Fadhil Nkya, Salum Dilunga, and Angel Eaton, who secured their spots in the top twelve.

Angel Eaton: The Surprise Package

Angel Eaton, the only female professional in the tournament, has been the standout surprise of this year’s event. Her performance has defied expectations, making her a key player to watch in the final rounds. Eaton started the third edition of the Lina PG Tour with an impressive 78 strokes, securing her ambition to make the cut. Despite a challenging second day where she scored 88, Eaton’s initial brilliance has kept her in the competition, showcasing her resilience and skill.

Elisante Lembris: Consistent Excellence

Elisante Lembris has also emerged as a strong contender. After carding the best score of 76 on Day One, Lembris continued his form with a solid two over par 74 strokes on the second day. His consistency places him firmly among the favorites to claim the title by the end of the final 36-hole showdown.

The Amateurs Holding Their Ground

In the amateur class, Ally Isanzu has maintained a dominant position. He began with an impressive one over 73 strokes on Day One and followed up with a 79 on the second day, leading the elite amateur board with an aggregate of 8+ after two rounds. Isanzu’s steady performance has set a high standard for his peers, including G. Chada (9+), Jay Nathwani (10+), Aliabass Kermalli (16+), and Isiaka Daudi (19+), who are trailing behind him.

The Legacy of Lina Nkya

The Lina PG Tour is more than just a series of golf tournaments; it is a tribute to Lina Said Nkya, a pioneer and trendsetter in Tanzanian golf. Established by the Lina Nkya family, the tour commemorates her contributions to the sport, particularly her role in elevating Tanzanian lady golfers to success in regional and global tournaments. Nkya’s legacy lives on through this tour, inspiring a new generation of golfers to pursue excellence.
